This section outlines new features available for ExceedTM 7.1.1. It also lists any issues that Hummingbird is aware of at the time of release.
Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\7.11\Accessories
This section describes the new features available in the ExceedTM version 7.1 products release. For information on the features added in previous releases, contact your Hummingbird sales representative.
All Hummingbird Host Access products have been upgraded to be accessible to all users. Wherever possible, our software uses Microsoft Windows interface standards and contains a comprehensive set of accessibility features. For more information, see the introductory chapter of your Hummingbird product manual.
You can now purchase a new add-on product for your Hummingbird Host Access version 7.1 products. The Hummingbird Connectivity Security PackTM provides highly secure TCP tunnels for communications between clients and hosts on a network. Security Pack lets users running Xstart, HostExplorerTM, FTP for Windows Explorer, and FTP log in over a secure channel to another computer on the network and execute commands on the remote machine or transfer files between machines.
All Exceed products now support Windows Me, in addition to Windows NT/95/98/2000.
You can now install Hummingbird Host Access products (except HostExplorer Deployment WizardTM) on a Terminal Server using the link in Hummingbird Master Setup and provide immediate access to all connnected Terminal Server Clients. Some products require a transform file to be applied during the installation and should be launched from a command line instead of from the Add/Remove Programs dialog box. For details on this installation scenario, consult the product manual. The Hummingbird product line supports installations on Windows NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition (including Citrix MetaFrame) and Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services.
New User Manager for Windows TSE Installations
Hummingbird also provides the Hummingbird User Manager, which lets you customize the shortcuts and functionality available to each user profile on the Terminal Server. You can access the User Manager under System32\Hummingbird\Connectivity on the system drive. For more information, see User Manager Help.
Windows Installer is an operating system service developed by Microsoft. It improves the installation of programs, makes software deployment on corporate networks easier, and solves common problems such as shared DLL conflicts.
Windows Installer lets product components install separately (providing complete granularity or level of detail). The following Hummingbird products make use of Windows Installer:
Version 7.1 products have the following installation features:
Hummingbird products support Advertised installations for certain features. Windows Installer registers the application, creates shortcuts and menu entries, and associates file types without actually copying the application files to the computer. If the user, or another application, tries to access an advertised program, the program installs on demand.
You can preserve user profiles for version 6.2 Hummingbird products. If you are upgrading the same (single) product from version 6.2 to version 7.1, Setup Wizard will backup user profiles and automatically uninstall the version 6.2 product.
User profiles for multiple version 6.2 products can be preserved, but the products are not automatically uninstalled. These must be uninstalled manually before installing version 7.1. Hummingbird Setup Wizard does not preserve user profiles for product versions prior to 6.2. You must manually uninstall all such products before installing version 7.1.
Hummingbird version 7.1 products will automatically replace a previously installed 7.0 version of the same product. All settings are preserved in a backup location, and any settings that are applicable to the newly installed features of version 7.1 are migrated.
In cases where an upgrade is not possible, the version 7.1 product installs side-by-side with existing products.
Note:
Some products do not support side-by-side installation
If a migration from version 6.2 to 7.0 was disabled to allow side-by-side installation of a product, an upgrade from version 7.0 to 7.1 is possible, but the 7.0 settings are migrated instead of the 6.2 settings.
All Hummingbird products are installed by default into a common folder accessible from both the Windows Start menu and a shortcut on the desktop.
SMS support is available directly in Windows Installer. Hummingbird provides package definition files with each product to make it easier to install using SMS.
The following are new features for version 7.1:
Xconfig is available as a snap-in and is added to the Administrative Tools in Windows 2000.
For remote connections, Password refers to the password set under the Xconfig System Administration Settings. Users can also specify a remote exceed.cfg file.
This application now includes a wizard for creating Xsession and Xstart files that use multiple displays (instances).
This new feature lets users easily create an Xsession file directly from Xstart by launching a child Xsession window that is initially attached to the bottom of the Xstart window. Now you can create, open, and edit files in Xstart, then add them to the Xsession list of included programs.
A secure shell (TCP/IP) start method is available with Xstart. To use this method, you must purchase Hummingbird Connectivity Security Pack. For more information, see Hummingbird Connectivity Security Pack.
Font support for Arabic and Thai are now available. For version 7.0, Exceed X server was expanded to provide support for True Type Fonts on the Solaris platform for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean locales.
Exceed 7.1 also contains improved support for Latin 1 by providing scalable (True Type) equivalents of 75 dpi and 100 dpi bitmap fonts.
Exceed supports the following devices:
Exceed supports Depth 12 (4096 colors), so that you can run X applications that require 12-bit color.
Macros support launching Exceed toolbar commands in addition to keyboard actions. Refer to Exceed Help for further details on macro mapping.
The Exceed X Development Kit (XDK) product has multiple new features for version 7.1.
The Exceed XDK now supports the X11R6.6 development environment.
The Exceed XDK now supports Motif 2.1.30 with Complex Text Layout (CTL). If you are using Motif 2.1.30 CTL, you can use the Exceed XDK to develop context-sensitive local Arabic applications.
In addition to UNIX encoding for the Arabic language (ISO 8859-6), you can now use Windows encoding 1256. For detailed instructions, see "Chapter 2: Developing Local Arabic Clients" in the Exceed X Development Kit User's Guide.
This version of the Exceed XDK now provides library and header files for the GNOME/Linux development environment with a CYGWIN gcc compiler. These files can be found in the following locations:

where home is the directory in which the software is installed. In home\xdk\gcc\lib, you will find the following library files:

The X Print extension DLL has been enhanced in conjunction with X11R6.6 support.
You can now create and modify Quick Scripts using Quick Script Editor. Quick Scripts consist of commands that can automate tedious and repetitive tasks such as entering your user name and password into a login screen. HostExplorer lets you assign these Quick Scripts to keyboard mappings, mouse actions, hotspots, toolbar buttons, and the track menu.
HostExplorer now provides Secure Shell encryption of all traffic between the server and the client on a Telnet terminal. This feature is available only if you have Hummingbird Connectivity Security Pack installed. The Hummingbird Connectivity Security Pack is an add-on implementation of the IETF Secure Shell standard. For more information, refer to the Hummingbird Connectivity Security Pack User's Guide.
HostExplorer also provides a General category in the Security folder of the Session Profile dialog box. This category lets you specify the method for securing traffic between the server and the client. In previous versions, you could select only the Kerberos option, which provides authentication and secures traffic between the server and the client for 3270 and Telnet terminals. In the future, you will have the option of selecting the SSL/TLS option, which encrypts all traffic between the server and the client on 3270, 5250, and Telnet terminals. Currently, this option is dimmed in the dialog box.
In addition, the following new API methods/properties/data types are available to support the new security option:
Using the Toolbars dialog box, you can now enlarge the size of toolbar buttons on the host session window. In addition, you can change the image of the toolbar button to one supplied by HostExplorer or your own customized image.
HostExplorer now provides sample programs for COM objects, OHIO, and Quick Scripts that you can use as programming aids.
These sample files are located in their corresponding directory in the following location:

where drive is the drive on which you installed HostExplorer. SampleType is the name of the directory that contains the samples, for example, COMObjects.

This version of HostExplorer provides more printing functionality for the Telnet terminal, such as sending initialization and deinitialization strings to the printer for passthru printing and disabling printer translation.
The method "Open" has been added to the Hosts object. This method lets you start a new session from a profile saved on disk or create a new session from scratch.
HostExplorer provides a new session option, Custom Transfer Table, which you can modify in the Profile section of the session profile file (.hep). This Custom Transfer Table entry lets you override translate settings of the code pages specified in the Code Pages category of the File Transfer folder in the Session Profile dialog box.
HostExplorer now provides a wizard that lets you transfer structured data files between a PC and an AS/400 host. If you transfer a file from an AS/400 host to your PC, you can specify standard SQL statements for execution.
FTP for Windows Explorer is a client implementation of the File Transfer Protocol. It lets you transfer both text (ASCII) and image (binary) files between your PC and a remote computer running a server implementation of FTP. You can also use it to perform file and directory management on your PC and a remote computer.
FTP for Windows Explorer supports Solaris, SunOS, AIX, Windows NT/2000, AS/400, VMS, VM/CMS, MVS, and VM/VPS, HP-UX, BSD, Chameleon FTP Daemon, DAS9, Data General, GCOS, Hummingbird FTP Daemon, MSDOS, MVS, includes OpenEdition, MVS JES, NetTerm, NetWare, OS/2, OS 9, Tandem, Unix, VMS-UCX 1.3, VOS, VSE - Native Mode, VSE - Unix Emulation Mode, Windows NT 3.5x to 4.
Hummingbird Neighborhood is an extension of Windows Explorer that lets you access and manipulate the profiles and folders associated with Hummingbird applications such as HostExplorer, the 5250 File Transfer Wizard, and FTP for Windows Explorer. Hummingbird Neighborhood is fully embedded within Windows Explorer.
Like Windows Explorer, Hummingbird Neighborhood provides copy-and-paste, drag-and-drop, delete, and launch features.
Macro & Profile Converter is a new utility that lets you convert Wall Data RUMBA or Attachmate EXTRA! macros into Hummingbird Basic macros and Attachmate EXTRA! profiles into HostExplorer session profiles.
Directory services support for Hummingbird Connectivity applications is now localized to a new accessory, Hummingbird Directory Services. This application lets you configure the NIS, NIS+, and LDAP settings for Hummingbird Connectivity applications. All directory services queries made by Hummingbird Connectivity applications target the domains that you specify in a configuration profile for the current user or your machine. Hummingbird Directory Services also lets you synchronize your Windows and UNIX passwords and select a target service for host name resolution.
You can access Hummingbird Directory Services through Control Panel or on the Windows Start menu.
Hummingbird Directory Services includes the NIS and NIS+ command line utilities that shipped with Directory Services Explorer in version 7.0. It also includes a new utility, ldappasswd, that lets you change your password in an LDAP domain.
Directory Services Explorer now supports the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). You can query LDAP objects, view their properties, and change your password in an LDAP domain.
Directory Services Explorer now lets you bind to and browse multiple directory service profiles simultaneously. You can access up to 10 profiles for each supported service (NIS, NIS+, and LDAP). You can also browse the information specified in the profiles for Hummingbird Directory Services.
The Jconfig Xconfig Service now contains a new input setting: the Mouse Wheel Movement Sends Moust Button Event option. This option lets you set button 4/5 events so you can scroll the windows of the existing X applications. ButtonPress and ButtonRelease events are sent according to the mouse wheel motion (up/down).
You can now use the Jconfig HostExplorer Service to do the following:
New features added to the Sconfig utility allow for a more customized installation of your Hummingbird product for user groups with different needs. With Sconfig you can now set custom files, custom registry keys, and shortcuts. Product-specific customizations are now possible with support for Exceed property settings. Along with setting customized properties for Exceed, the Exceed Settings option lets you set custom font directories and servers, and font paths.
SOCKS client V4 and V5 are available on the Hummingbird product CD in the SOCKS folder and on the Hummingbird web site. To get SOCKS information, on the Start menu navigate to System Administration and click SOCKS Information.
The following features have been discontinued in the version 7.1 release.
This version of HostExplorer no longer supports HostExplorer Tuner.
This version of HostExplorer no longer supports ALA. Accordingly, the ALA category in the Terminal folder for session options no longer appears.
This section describes issues that Hummingbird is aware of at the time of release.
You may experience problems with MIT Kerberos for Windows Client 2.0 and 2.1 in a Windows TSE environment (Windows NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition or Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services). When MIT Kerberos Client 2.0 or 2.1 Setup tries to install configuration files into the Windows or Windows\System32 directories, Windows TSE installs them into user profile directories instead, without adding the new path to the system path. As a result, the application cannot access the required files.
The following are known Windows Installer issues:
For each installation, run Setup using the following syntax:
setup /v"DISABLEADVTSHORTCUTS=1"
For multiple installations or in the case of a multi-user rollout:

To preserve an existing product version and install the new version 7.1 side-by-side, you may want to disable migration.
To disable migration of user profiles from version 6.2 to 7.1, run:
setup /v"ALLOWMIGRATE="
To disable migration of user profiles from version 7.0 to 7.1, run:
setup /v"DISABLE71UPGRADE=1"
Warning:
Side-by-side installation is not advised. It may cause incompatabilities (especially with the NFS Maestro product line).
You can run only one instance of Xconfig. If you are running multiple custom desktops and Xconfig is running on one desktop, you cannot launch it in another. You will need to return to the desktop on which Xconfig is running.
To use Pathworks version 7.2 with Exceed, you must manually copy the dnetw.dll from the Pathworks CD into the Pathworks home directory.
During migration of user profiles from version 6.2 to 7.1, settings for user name and password are not migrated for security reasons.
If you are doing a personal installation of Exceed PowerSuite under Windows NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition/Windows 2000 with Terminal Services without applying TSE transform, Exceed and HostExplorer features will not be available. For details on this installation scenario, consult the product manual.
If you are installing Exceed PowerSuite with TSE transform on Windows NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition, NFS Maestro Client shortcuts will be created under the All Users profile. As a result, the NFS Maestro Client shortcuts will not appear under the Hummingbird Connectivity desktop shortcuts. They will be accessible through the Windows Start menu.
Due to system requirements in NFS Maestro Client, you must use MIT Kerberos for Windows Client 2.0 on Windows NT/2000. You can use MIT Kerberos for Window Client 2.0 or 2.1 on Windows 95/98; we recommend that you use 2.1. On Windows Me, you must use version 2.1.
If you are running antivirus software in Windows 2000, you may experience an increase in the time that HostExplorer (or a deployed installation of HostExplorer) takes to establish an initial connection to the host. This connection time may be longer than the delay time value set on the host. In this case, a connection will not take place.
At the time of release, HostExplorer does not support the -u and -w command line switches.
At the time of release, HostExplorer does not allow you to create a session profile that launches an external application (such as an e-mail program or a web browser).
This version of HostExplorer offers a slightly different menu configuration. As a result, some of the strings you can add to the HostExplorer .ini file to disable session options or user interface items have changed.

The following issues apply to Directory Services Explorer and Hummingbird Directory Services.
In order to view the NIS+ system profile in Directory Services Explorer, you must run keylogin. If the system profile for NIS+ is in effect, you must also run keylogin before using any of the NIS+ command line utilities. The NIS+ Login dialog box opens the first time you try to browse or run NIS+ commands against NIS+ objects in the system profile. Use this dialog box to enter your user name and Secure RPC password. Once you have supplied user credentials for the NIS+ domain in the system profile, you do not need to run keylogin again.
Before you can bind to an LDAP server under Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication, you must install a CA certificate using Microsoft Internet Explorer. The CA certificate must come from the same root Certificate Authority that supplies certificates for the server. The version of Internet Explorer that you use must support SSL. You may also need to update your Windows NT/2000 system before you can install the certificate. For more information, see article Q286158 in the Microsoft Product Support Services web site:
For LDAP to work on Windows 95, you must have a copy of wldap32.dll (with a minimum version of 4.01.56.1) in your system folder. This DLL comes with Windows Internet Explorer 3.02. Note that this version of the DLL only supports V2 functionality.
For advanced functionality, such as SSL or V3, you must use the version of this DLL that comes with Internet Explorer 4.01 or greater.
You may experience problems with Jconfig Daemon if the component is installed via a shared image. When starting certain services, Jconfig Daemon attempts to load DLL files found on the remote computer. To load these files, the daemon must have access to the shared product directories. This access is provided by changing the "log on as" settings for the service so that the service is run under the account for which the shared product was installed.

Most compiled Hummingbird Basic files (*.ebx) work in version 7.1 without rebuilding them in Hummingbird Basic Workbench. In some cases, the migrated script does not work if the script used to create the .ebx file used one or more of the Hummingbird directory macros (-e, -h, or -u). In this case, the script must be rebuilt to work with version 7.1.

In version 6.2, the expansion was essentially the same, except that all binary files for the product were accessible from the directory. For version 7.0 and higher, only the binary files for the installed features of Accessories are located in the directory.
Non-administrators will see the Update Hummingbird option and the WebUpdate Settings icons in the System Administration folder. Depending on your platform, this option behaves differently.
When a non-administrator double-clicks either icon, the Hummingbird update web site opens in a browser, but WebUpdate.exe does not run.
Windows Terminal Server Platforms
When a non-administrator double-clicks either icon, a message appears advising that, to perform an update, you must contact a system administrator. Only an adminstrator can use the shortcuts.
In "Chapter 2: Installing product ", the "Third Party Software" sub-section under "Installation Requirements" should list Microsoft SNA Client (for Windows NT/95/98/2000) as a third party add-on available for installation in Hummingbird Master Setup, not Microsoft SNA Server (for Windows NT/2000).

Release Notes are available in hard copy and HTML format. The HTML version is automatically installed when you install the product.
Hummingbird manuals contain conceptual information on your product; procedural information on installing and using the product and related applications; and some manuals contain programming reference, interface reference, and troubleshooting information.
All manuals are available in print and online. The online versions are installed only if you do a Complete installation. Otherwise, you can locate them on the product CD in the following path:

The online Help is a comprehensive, context-sensitive collection of information regarding your Hummingbird product. It contains conceptual and reference information, and detailed, step-by-step procedures to assist you in completing your tasks.
The following software is required for some components. You can install all third party software (except for Kerberos, see below) from Hummingbird Master Setup (msetup.exe).
Online manuals are available in Adobe Acrobat 4.0 PDF format. You can use the supplied Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5 to view, navigate, and print these manuals.

Kerberos is a network authentication protocol that provides the necessary network tools to secure information systems across an enterprise. Based on client/server identification, Kerberos uses a key-distribution model and a secure password to restrict access to classified accounts.
To use Kerberos support for HostExplorer or Xstart, you must install the Kerberos software from MIT. To download the latest version of Kerberos, go to the following web site:

HostExplorer, included with Exceed, has native client support for Microsoft SNA Server and Novell NetWare for SAA. Native client connectivity adds support for gateways that do not require TN3270 or TN3270E protocols. Platform support includes Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows 95, and Windows 98. Windows NT
